Black Conservative Thought: Why Conscious Black Conservatism is More Equipped to Defeat Progressivism Than Colorblind “Black” Republicanism

In this new lesson, I provide Conservatives historical context that proves why Conscious Black Conservatism is the only philosophy that will destroy the ongoing animosity we see among each other.

"I'm not Black. I'm American."

Translation: "I'm not one of THOSE Negros. I am just like you, White Conservative Americans."

There's a statement circulating the conservative space that seems to resonate well among White Conservatives: the notion that Black Conservatives are, in fact, not Black but rather simply Americans.

It's an ironic statement, for these Black Conservatives KNOW they are different. They KNOW they are Black. But they don't want White Conservatives to feel threatened or intimated by their Blackness.

So, they make these stupid statements to ease any possible "racial" tension.

Back in 2016, when I first entered the public political scene (not by choose, of course), I noticed how prevalent this statement was among the base.

I found it to be foolish, especially because we can CLEARLY see just how "Black" a Black Conservative is. And yet, White Conservatives continued cheering as more and more of these Black faces denounced their Blackness while telling their Conservative cousins, "It's OK to be White."

To an outsider, it's no wonder the general Black community calls these Black faces "Uncle Toms" or sellouts.

But don't use those monikers towards these Black Conservatives, because the White base will come to the rescue to defend their "Good Negro."

You might be thinking, "Coach, those are really harsh statements. Why would you say things like that?"

And my answer is simple: Because it's the truth.

In fact, it's historically accurate and reveals a common trend among certain Black Republicans in the conservative base who feel the incessant need to be "colorless" for the sake of not offending White Conservatives.

Well, you know me. 

If an offense is needed to push people out of their comfort zone, I will do it.

And in 2019, I launched the Conscious Black Conservative Movement as an all-out attack against the colorblind crowd for their hypocrisy and overt attempts to prevent effective Black Outreach and the true alliance.

What are Colorblind Black Republicans and why are they so hated within Black communities? Let's dive into this teaching.

In his groundbreaking book, Black Elephant in the Room, Corey Fields discusses the difference between Colorblind Black Republicans and more Conscious-race Black Republicans.

His definition is simple: “Tension between the race-blind and the race-conscious is the defining feature of the African American Republican in politics.” He continues, “This idea is drawn upon the concept that not all Black Republicans are the same. They aren’t a monolith.”

And he’s right.

We aren’t.

To further add, Black Conservatives will appear in two different forms and for various reasons.

Fields continues, 

There are two strategies of linking Blackness and Republicanism. One is the colorblind strategy that essentially says race does not matter. When it comes to thinking about policy, [the Colorblind Black Republican will say] ‘I don’t think about it as a Black person.’ The alternative approach is race-conscious Black Republicans, which says, ‘Yes, I’m Black and it’s important to me. I just think the best thing for Black people is conservative politics.’

He concludes: “The latter you can think about as Black Power through conservative principles.”

And I couldn’t have put that statement together better myself.

When we are discussing the difference between Colorblind Republicans and Conscious Black Conservatives, both segments are focused on two entirely different missions.

I’ll add to Field’s definition and state it like this: ​

Colorblind Black Republicans are more concerned with building an alliance with White Conservatives ONLY. They aren’t focused on empowering Black communities with conservatism, because “they don’t see color.” 

Conscious Black Conservatives, however, are deeply connected to Black History, Black Culture, and Black People; and we are focused on building the alliance with White Conservatives and having White Conservatives build an alliance with Black people who are BUILDING. Our purpose for the alliance is to defeat Progressivism, which has destroyed our Black communities for over a century and now finds itself infiltrating White communities.

The difference is obvious, and every White Conservative should pay attention to this dichotomy, because our interactions with you often influence how Black folks perceive YOU!

"I'm not Black," said the Colorblind one to a rally full of White Conservatives.

All my life, I’ve been affiliated with conservatism. This is the only ideology I know. Dad raised me in it and taught me the values. He showed me why liberalism was cancerous to our communities.

Yet, throughout all his teachings, Dad never told me to deny being Black.

He never told me to “assimilate” into White society and to reject my Black History or Black Culture.

Simultaneously, he never told me to be ashamed of my conservative background, even as other Black people mocked us for being Conservative or Republican.

Dad fortified my mind when I was younger, and it’s the reason I can effectively fight on the battlefield of ideas in this political arena.

And within the general Black Conservative space, I found myself fighting against the Colorblind Black Republicans for being a repellant to Black voters while making White Conservatives look like the racist ones in these political streets.

Allow me to elaborate.

Within Black Culture, you do not deny your essence. Being Black is empowering. We have centuries of government-sanctioned indoctrination that tried telling us we were nothing more than animals or sub-humans. Imagine a government doing that to you through policies, media, entertainment, sports, education, law, and any other institution.

Black Americans had to combat every form of racism, whether de facto or de jure. 

Our ancestors did that.

In the face of overt White Supremacy, as our Black Progressive cousins love to call government oppression, Black people were still building.

And that’s the stock I come from.

That’s the lineage I affiliate with.

Because they knew how to flex their Black Conservatism while proving no one, not even the White man, was superior to them by nature of race.

Now, why would I ever deny that lineage?

​Why would I ever reject such fire history?

I would look foolish doing that, and so do Colorblind Black Republicans who try to disassociate themselves from Black History and Black Culture. To them, both entities symbolize victimhood and degeneracy. But they only pull those negative stereotypes from the racist dimwits in the base, who rarely ever read books.

But I digress.

You see, each time Black Republicans deny their connection to our History and Culture, they appear as “sellouts” to other Black people. In turn, Black people look at White Conservatives side-eyed for celebrating Black folks who reject other Black people on the basis of something like politics.

Rather than working together, Colorblind Black Republicans essentially see themselves as superior to other Black people, because they are a part of YOUR crowd.

And I call out that elitist, evil mentality regularly.

In today’s social media craze, the Colorblind Black Republicans have learned to make a name for themselves. As my Kindred Fire, Sonnie Johnson, mentioned in Twitter Class, “They like being the only Black face in the [White Conservative] room.” Take one look at their following, and you will see millions of White Conservatives lauding their content, especially when these Black faces speak evil of the Black community.

To the contrary, look at the accounts of more Conscious Black Conservatives, and you will see smaller numbers.

This tells you exactly what you need to know about which messaging is most accepted in this general conservative space.

And back in 2018, the number of supporters was far lower.

But we kept building on this side.

And God kept increasing.

The Rise of Conscious Black Conservatism and Why We Keep Winning

When I launched the Conscious Black Conservative Movement in 2019, my focus was on spiritual laws and principles from God’s Kingdom perspective. I wanted to prove His ways could work in the social, political, and economic spheres.

According to the Ancient Texts, “When a [woman’s] ways please the Lord, He causes even [her] enemies to be at peace with [her].”

Another passage reads, “Commit your ways unto the Lord, and He will cause your plans to prosper.”

In my virtual ministry, I sought out the Kingdom of God firstly. As a result, He elevated my platform, even when thousands felt I did not deserve any spotlight.

God the Holy Spirit did that. And I will never cease to give Him credit for this rise.

As more Conservatives began receiving the message and purchasing the Conscious Conservative E-Book Collection, they realized Conscious Black Conservatism was exactly what we needed to build the alliance and to dismantle Progressivism where it was most prevalent.

Before long, I was featured on FOX, the #1 conservative news outlet that reaches millions every day.

God opened the door for other features, which allowed me to prove to Conservatives that race-conscious Black Republicans were not a threat but rather an asset to the general conservative movement.

As I mentioned earlier, we are concerned about the alliance for the purpose of defeating a common enemy: Progressivism.

That philosophy -- Progressivism, coupled with Colored Communism -- is the reason we have such racial tension in our country. And the only way to combat it is to do what Radical Republicans did in the 1860s.

They could not defeat something as magnanimous as slavery with just one group fighting.

It required the collective work of White and Black abolitionists, of both Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, of both White and Black soldiers who may have had different reasons for entering the fight, but still knew the common enemy.

That is essentially what we have today.

A common enemy: Progressivism.

And unless a full alliance is built, that philosophy will continue metastasizing until it is the dominant ideology in this country.

I don’t know about you, but that is not a country I want to hand over to my daughter.

A Call to Action

While some White Conservatives will say there is room in the base for both Colorblind Black Republicans and Conscious Black Conservatives, the truth is folks need to make a choice. You cannot mix oil and water. You must consider where you want to move this country for the next generations.

Will Conservatives continue turning a blind eye when Black folks complain about Progressivism in their local areas?

They can’t afford to do that any longer, because the Law of Sowing and Reaping has given them a small taste of what it’s like to have a government enforce unconstitutional laws that directly strip them of their freedom to move around.

These issues are nothing new to Black America. And had Conservatives built the alliance 80+ years ago, we would be living in a vastly different society today.

Conservatives can no longer afford to implement the colorblind strategy because it has never worked, especially in a country whose founding is based on race and social class. 

Race-consciousness does not make you racist.

Championing the clear racist policies (like Stop and Frisk) against certain American citizens makes you racist and complicit, especially when you have an ideology and political practice that can literally remove barriers in these distressed areas.

Colorblind Conservatism is the worst of its kind because it completely ignores issues that your Radical Republicans would have tackled. This behavior isn’t even indicative of your political lineage.

So, why are you embracing it?

Put yourself in Black people’s shoes.

If the tables were turned and you had Progressivism on your neck for 100 years, wouldn’t you want Black Americans to hear you? Wouldn’t you want other Americans to fight alongside you to get that heel off your communities? Wouldn’t you want an alliance so your wealth was protected instead of being used to fund MORE oppression?

White Conservatives got a taste of Progressivism with the COVID regulations and police enforcement.

How did that make you feel?

Now, imagine 100 more years of that.

Are you really ready to live in that type of country?

Or would you rather build an alliance with the most conservative ethnic group in this country, Black Americans?

The time to make a choice is now.

And Conscious Black Conservatives are ready to build with you.

We are far more equipped to flex this alliance than our Colorblind Black Republican cousins.
