In today's post, I want to teach you how to properly invest in your authorship.
There are many entrepreneurs, vying for your attention and money, which may be overwhelming to you.
Many "gurus" promise to deliver powerful results if you hire them; and some of them can actually deliver.
But when there are so many experts from which to choose, it can be daunting and outright frustrating, especially because you don't want your resources (time and money) to be wasted.
So, what I want to do today is give you the five, must-have investment tips for your new self-publishing career. I'll also share with you why these elements are important, and how I have used them to help me move forward in my work.

Invest Full-Time Work in Your Author's Business or Ministry
It never fails.
Whenever I connect with a client or a student, one of the common statements they make is, "I didn't know it required all this."
Whenever new or aspiring authors get the idea to write and publish a book, they make costly assumptions about the process.
They assume their books will automatically sell because God gave them the idea; or they believe speaking gigs will magically come knocking on their door because they have been chosen.
They assume people will automatically purchase hundreds of their books simply because they may be listed on Amazon.
They assume that all they have to do is write books and everything else will take care of itself.
That's a faulty mistake, and one I don't want you to make.
When it comes to building your new authorship, you need to see yourself as building your own business. There's no difference.
You have to give time and energy to your work, otherwise it will die.
If you don't nurture your authorship, no one else will.
You must be skilled in effective time-management strategies.
You must be skilled in planning the execution of your virtual ministry or online business.
You must learn to adopt certain behaviors so your work thrives for a lifetime.
When you master these skills and others, your work will grow over time, because you have learned to invest time into everything you do.
I know this can be challenging, especially because you are new to the self-publishing industry.
I know it can seem daunting to complete everything that needs to be done, especially if you're working on your ministry as a solopreneur.
But you can't allow excuses, procrastination, and a lack of persistence to stop you from walking in your calling.
This is something I train my students to do. I want them to learn how to properly prepare themselves for long-term success.
I teach them about planning their business, managing their time wisely, and setting SMART goals among other techniques.
Time is valuable, and you must learn to use it wisely. What you sow in your ministry today, you will eventually reap a major harvest.
Invest in Expert Training
I can't stress this point enough, especially because the virtual industry will quickly become the new norm within the business and ministry market.
Your authorship will only succeed based on your willingness to invest in the right training for your work.
This is what I discovered back in 2015 as I observed my business stagnating.
I hated that I couldn't scale my work so that I generated more income.
But I realized the only way I could change my situation was to invest in my education and training.
That's when I began purchasing relevant books on business and entrepreneurship.
I purchased online courses that helped me better understand certain elements of entrepreneurship such as blogging, video marketing, online business management, sales funnels, systems of operations, and more.
Even when I had very little money to spare, I took that little and purchased my education, because I needed to prove to myself that my ministry was worth it.
And you must do the same thing.
If you want to see your authorship flourish, you must invest financially in the training that's provided to you.
Now, I have to admit: Back in 2015, I could not find any class or school that specifically taught me how to truly thrive as a writerpreneur. That's why I turned to general entrepreneurial resources to help me understand certain concepts.
But I still wanted to have resources that specifically addressed me so that I could walk in my calling effectively.
That's why I decided to create an online school, because I realized I was not the only one who needed this type of training.
And since sharing my knowledge and expertise with my Beloved Tribe, I have watched my students and clients soar in their authorship.
I want the same thing for you, Dear Reader. But no one will simply hand over to you all the golden nuggets that will make you wealthy and prosperous in your venture.
You must first be willing to prove to yourself that your authorship is worth you making financial investments into it.
If you're not going to invest in your work financially, neither will others. Again, it goes back to the principles of sowing and reaping.
If you sow little in your work, expect a small return.
But when you generously invest in your training--in the RIGHT training!--you will experience success beyond your current dreams.

Invest in Your Online Platform and Author's Brand
Your Author Platform is crucial to your success in the online space.
If you want to build a following of loyal, committed readers, then having an Author Platform is tantamount.
Your platform is your online hub where you make direct connections with your tribe or fan base.
Your platform includes your website and any social media sites you dominate.
One of the requirements I have for all my clients and students is that they have a blog and/or vlog as a part of their platform. As an upcoming author, you must demonstrate your expertise to you audience in the manner you want them to receive you.
Building a platform means providing consistent, ongoing content for your audience, even before you ask them to purchase your books and other products.
Without a platform, it is nearly impossible for you to succeed, especially because readers and consumers expect entrepreneurs (and writerpreneurs) to have an online space for them to visit.
When done effectively, your platform can help you land speaking engagements, enroll high-paying clients into your coaching program, and even help you sell thousands of books each year.
Your Author Platform has the potential to take your virtual ministry across the country and around the world!
And that's why it's important to invest in it.
Again, when you do this correctly, the rewards will be outstanding.
Invest in Best-Marketing Practices
Nearly all new and aspiring authors avoid this topic: marketing.
This is because most authors want to focus on writing their books.
They want publishers or other people to promote their works while they focus exclusively on creating content.
Now, if you have thousands of dollars to spend on those kinds of services, then go for it!
But for most new authors, they don't have such resources.
So, what are they to do?
The answer: Invest in their own marketing efforts.
New self-publishing authors can use inexpensive, cost-effective strategies to promote their books and other products when they employ content marketing techniques.
Remember earlier when I told you that blogging was an important element of the Author Platform?
That's because blogging is a type of content marketing tool that helps you promote what you intend to sell.
Consider how I'm currently using my blog posts to promote the products I have for sale.
Through these lessons, I share powerful strategies that you can apply today in an easy-to-use, easy-to-understand format; and then I embed my paid products seamlessly within each post.
From there, I share these empowering lessons on my social media platforms where the bulk of my audience resides.
And that's how you can use blogging to your advantage, too. It's a great way for you to continue writing while simultaneously marketing your authorship.
Invest in the Right Publishing Services
Now, here's what I mean by this:
Whether you decided to traditionally publish or self-publish, you need to do your homework.
You need to work with a reputable company that provides quality services for your needs.
If you want to traditionally publish, study that industry.
Find a company that is willing to take on your project. This is an especially challenging feat, particularly for new authors and speakers.
But if you move along the self-publishing route, you will find it's easier to get your books printed and published.
There are thousands of service providers who can help you with your publishing needs, such as creating your book cover, developing your website, providing ghostwriting services, printing your copies, and much more. I want to stress this point: Do not assume you can do everything on your own. You are not the expert when it comes to the technical side of building and managing a powerful authorship, at least not yet.
You are simply the expert in the message God called you to write and speak.
Therefore, it's vital that you invest in the right services for your venture.
