Felecia's Award-Winning Lessons Will Teach You How to Use the Self-Publishing Industry to Launch Your Social, Political & Economic Empire
Welcome to another Empowering Post, where I teach you valuable lessons that will truly impact the growth of your new writing career and ministry.
If you are new to this virtual ministry, I'm Felecia Killings, the Founder of The Foundation. I've worked with new authors since 2011, helping men and women build a business or ministry around their authorship.
My platform provides writerpreneurs like you the best resources and training materials that will help you manifest your vision as an author.
Now, for today's lesson, I want to help you understand what it means to be truly focused on your mission and vision.
I'm going to share how this particular trait is crucial to your growth and increase.
More specifically, I want to dive into the following areas:
So, let's spend some time together with this lesson. While it will be rather extensive, it is certainly worth your time.
Sometimes You Need to be Ruthless and Cold-blooded
Let's begin this lesson by first addressing what it means to be focused.
The most common definition relates to finding clarity and maintaining concentration.
Being focused also means paying close attention to something so as to avoid distractions.
Both definitions serve their purpose for this lesson, so let's elaborate on how they apply to us as Writerpreneurs.
Napoleon Hill (from Think and Grow Rich) discussed something interesting regarding men and women who have acquired great wealth and riches.
He explained, "Men who accumulate great fortunes are generally known as cold-blooded and sometimes ruthless. Often they are misunderstood. What they have is will power..." (page 98).
In other words, focused people display unusual characteristics that often exude a "cold-blooded" nature.
At times, we consider them to be mean and strict.
We admire their results and praise their accomplishments.
But we never really explore what helped them achieve their goals.
If we did, we would find these individuals possessed a keen focus on their mission, and nothing could distract or deter them from obtaining their desired results.
One may call them dogmatic and stubborn, ambitious and insensitive.
And these traits are not always a negative thing.
What we witness are people who simply concentrate their efforts and energies on matters that will help them reach whatever goals they have.
This is a powerful trait to have, and one that you ought to employ as a new Writerpreneur.
5 Methods to Help You Maintain Focus
Conducting business in the online space definitely has its rewards.
But it also has its challenges, and many of those obstacles serve as distractions for us.
Think about all the notifications you receive in a given day.
From email notifications to social media alerts to everything else, it seems there are so many reasons to lose focus on what needs to be accomplished.
But unless you condition and discipline yourself to be focused, your productivity will decrease dramatically.
Here are 5 ways you can develop this disciple:
1.) Have a clear roadmap to where you are going with your writing career and ministry.
It's impossible to know where you are headed unless you have the direction and insight that's needed to get there.
I remember when I first began taking my writing ministry seriously in 2015, I had zero clue as to where to begin or what to do each day to move forward.
I would wake up each day, wondering if I should write a new blog post or market my services or apply for a new writing gig.
My mind was all over the place, and that was because I had no clear roadmap.
I didn't set SMART goals.
I didn't conduct the kind of research I needed to inform my decisions.
I simply did my work by the seat of my pants.
Certainly not a great way to be productive.
But once I mapped my vision and mission, I discovered all I needed to do each day to help me see them come to life. The same will work for you.
Think about what you want to accomplish in your writing career and ministry.
Do you want to create a speaking platform through it?
Do you want to host conferences and live workshops?
Do you want to have an online school?
What do you intend to have in your ministry?
Based on that, you can then create the roadmap you need to succeed.
You can develop the strategies needed to get to your destination.
For example, if you want speaking engagements, you can conduct online workshops, webinars, or chats to help market your work.
Or if your want to create an online school, you should focus on developing lessons and curriculum for publication.
Again, once you have that map, you give your mind a reason to be focused on various tasks that will help you manifest your dreams.
2.) Prioritize your endeavors and daily tasks.
Being a writerpreneur is a lot of work.
You certainly wear more hats than you probably should, and for good reason because you want your ministry to thrive.
But with all that goes into building your writing ministry, it's important you make certain tasks a priority over others.
Back in 2016 when I first launched LiyahAmore University, I spent several months writing the curriculum for the school.
I knew I wanted to open the school that year, but in order to do so I had to publish enough lessons that students could use.
So, during that time, my main priority was to create a new set of lessons.
I couldn't spend that time working on a new book project or doing LIVE training sessions, because my priorities at the time were different.
You must learn to do the same thing.
As you're thinking about this point for your own ministry, I want you to consider what are your main priorities today.
Don't think about everything you want to accomplish over the next ten years, because that will distract you.
Think about your short-term, immediate goals, and then make them your focus.
Do you have a set deadline for completing your next book?
If so, your priority needs to be on writing chapters each week.
Or if you want to enhance your marketing endeavors, then your priority needs to be on creating dynamic content marketing materials that will draw in new visitors and readers.
These are just some examples.
In doing this, you will see just how quickly your ministry will grow over time, because you have learned to concentrate on what matters right now.
3.) Create a daily routine.
This strategy works for you, whether you work on your writing career and ministry full-time or part-time.
Establishing a routine means you are conditioning your mind to perform good habits that help you reach your goals.
For example, I'm learning to condition my mind to write a new blog post every morning.
While this is a lot of content to publish each week, I understand the benefits of creating effective blog articles that will help my ministry to grow.
Completing this task every day causes my mind to make this endeavor an automatic response.
And because I know blogging helps establish my authority in the online space, I understand this is a profitable task.
When thinking about your writing ministry, consider the beneficial tasks that you can accomplish each day.
How can you fit them into your daily schedule so they become automatic and routine?
Making this a part of your ministry will not only cause massive growth to your work, but it will also help you remain focused and productive.
4.) Become ruthless and avoid distractions.
This strategy might seem redundant, but let me explain.
At times, when you are concentrating on a particular task, anything that stops you from completing it can make you irritable.
This happens to us all the time.
As you work on certain tasks that require your undivided attention, it may be necessary to be "ruthless" with others so you meet your goals.
Some distractions can be social media notifications.
Others can be friends or family members who are calling you while you are trying to do your work.
At times, when this happens, being focused will require you to ignore those distractions for the moment.
And while this may hurt other people's feelings, you can't really afford to think about that if you want to finish your task.
This, of course, does not give you permission to be an Uncle Scrooge. But you get what I'm saying.
There will be times when you must be dogmatic about your mission, and you can't afford to let other people's behavior deter you from accomplishing it.
5.) Finally, take breaks in between completed tasks.
I love naps.
I know...I'm an adult...but I love them!
And because I wake up so early each morning, taking a nap during the day is what gives me an extra boost of energy to accomplish more throughout the day.
I want to encourage you to do the same thing.
Take some time to rest your mind, especially when it has released a lot of energy.
Resting is not the same as being lazy. So, I don't want you to feel guilty for stepping away from your work.
Give your body what it needs to recharge. And it will continue to serve you well.
A Persistent Spirit Will Keep You Focused
Persistence is that strong will power to see what you envision come to life.
Without persistence, it's impossible to truly thrive as a Writerpreneur.
And without it, it's nearly impossible to stay focused on your tasks.
When you are sure and confident about the ministry God gave you, it's now your responsibility to do the physical work to manifest it.
And that's where maintaining focus and a clear direction will assist you.

Her vision is to connect readers to God experiences through literary fiction.
Her newest book, Dipsuchos, is available now on Amazon. And here's a summary to whet your appetite.
Nova, the daughter of a US congressman, is pretty, privileged, and persuasive. Embarrassed by her father’s political abuse of power and her mother’s onset submissiveness, she finds solace in her secret job as a ghostwriter for one of the nation’s top media outlets, working to unveil the injustices in America’s urban communities.
Her recent article, entitled “The American Nightmare,” catches the eye of Damon Garrett, a community activist and seemingly the voice of Detroit’s underserved. Unbeknownst to many, he personifies racism, danger, and hypocrisy cloaked in rhetoric. Nova’s way with the people is what Damon needs to push his dark agenda forward, and he’ll do anything to get her on his side.
Jamal is a former drug dealer who works undercover for the FBI to bring down Detroit’s undesirables. He’s ready to quit the undercover life, but one strong-willed agent threatens his freedom if he does. The deal was to work for the government that destroyed his cartel or serve a hard sentence upstate.
As both Nova and Jamal find themselves in a fight to get out of the clutches that restrain them, they realize they are in too deep and that the only way out is in. Their journey brings them closer to a higher power that they once questioned.

"[My projects] would not be possible without the expertise of Felecia Killings, my writing coach, content editor, proofreader, and friend. Her professional skills have catapulted my writing ability in more ways than I can express. In 2016, she helped me complete The Space Between Memories and walked with me through The Mind of a Missionary as well. She helped consolidate my initial thoughts into this broad narrative of the missions endeavor...For that, I am very grateful."
- David Joannes

"I've worked with Felecia on two projects; she helped me with writing and editing my book. As an author, finding the right editor is very important. I had my book edited by someone who didn't do my book justice. But once Felecia performed the edits, the story flowed better than I'd image. I had found the right editor. Her skills are remarkable and I highly recommend her for any project you may have, big or small. As a writing coach, I wanted to take my business to the next level.
