Teaching Leaders How to Handle Public Persecution and Secure Victories, No Matter Their Hard Story

What does leadership look like to you?

Is it the glamour, the fame, and the notoriety that comes with your name and brand? Or is leadership a byproduct of something far more divine and purpose-driven?

Leadership is one of the most rewarding and challenging callings. But when you learn how to use Kingdom principles to guide your journey, you will discover the secrets to winning any battle and securing victories, no matter your hard story.

The Bible is my favorite compilation of books.

It is the one source that provides God’s laws while demonstrating how any leader who applies His Wisdom will be rewarded with honor, favor, success, wealth, and power.

It’s also the one source that delivers stories about men and women who encountered hardships that often resulted in serious scandals, some leading to their imprisonment.

Take Joseph, son of Jacob, for example.

He was the beloved son, the one who sat at his father’s feet to receive every instruction.

Often times, Joseph’s relationship with his father put him at odds with his brothers. The jealousy grew so strong, his brothers tried killing him.

When that plot failed, the brothers sold him into slavery.

While enslaved unjustly, Joseph worked inside the home of Potiphar, captain of Pharoah’s guard. Unlike most slaves, Joseph’s intellect and administrative abilities impressed Potiphar. In a short time, Joseph’s master made him a manager of the home.

Nothing was withheld from Joseph, only Potiphar’s wife.

And he made certain his moral compass kept him in line.

But his character did not stop Potiphar’s wife from desiring him.

Genesis 39 explains it best:
Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there.

The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned. From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field. So Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.

Now Joseph was well-built and handsome, and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!”

But he refused. “With me in charge,” he told her, “my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care. No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” And though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be with her.

One day he went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the household servants was inside. She caught him by his cloak and said, “Come to bed with me!” But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house.

When she saw that he had left his cloak in her hand and had run out of the house, she called her household servants. “Look,” she said to them, “this Hebrew has been brought to us to make sport of us! He came in here to sleep with me, but I screamed. When he heard me scream for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”

She kept his cloak beside her until his master came home. Then she told him this story: “That Hebrew slave you brought us came to me to make sport of me. But as soon as I screamed for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”

When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is how your slave treated me,” he burned with anger. Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.
At no point do we read about Joseph doing anything harmful to warrant such actions. Yet, the wickedness found in other people’s hearts caused them to hate him.

On the surface, Joseph’s story would have appeared to be a complete failure.

And yet, prior to his calamity, God had already given Joseph dreams about his future, prophecies that foretold his coming rise to political power.

Every situation Joseph encountered placed him in perfect position to manifest his God-given vision.

And not a single man could get the glory for his rise.

You can be perfect, and people will still find a reason to crucify you.

Whenever I endure a smear campaign because of my stance, I take time to see just who is affected by the digital onslaught. I observe the ones who once supported me to see how they react when the masses put on their mob hats.

And each time I see some fall away, I simply tell myself, “They are one action away from having their own lives destroyed. They are one action away from having their perfect lives tainted by one false accusation. All I need is time.”

Self-righteousness is cancerous to the human heart.

It suggests we have obtained a level of moral superiority over another person simply because “our sin isn’t as bad as their sin.”

I’ve observed this mindset among the most religious “Christians” of my time. For example, at one point, the Church’s focus was on eradicating sexual immorality, but mostly if it came packaged as homosexuality.

Fornicating with the opposite sex didn’t pack the some “sinful punch.” It wasn’t uncommon to hear preachers denounce homosexuality while they slept with multiple women in the church, many of whom were committing adultery against their wives.

But by societal standards, that type of opposite-sex sinning wasn’t as bad as homosexuality.

Then there are the other type of people who project a perfect image to the public. They say all the right things, have all the right messaging, and even spend time telling you about all the sins of other leaders.

But let the spotlight stay on them for 24 hours behind-closed-doors, and we will see an entirely different person.

And then we have another category of people: These are the ones who understand humanity is flawed. Humanity is sinful and needs morality to be its bedrock.

These are the people who sit “at their Father’s feet” to listen to His instructions, because they know His words contain life.

They adhere to His commands and take on His righteousness, which is perfectly displayed through faith in Him. They recognize no good thing can come to them unless they accurately apply His precepts so success becomes inevitable.

In essence, these individuals have learned the power of spiritual laws and Kingdom principles, which guide their moral compass, thus making them invincible to any onslaught or attack.

Those who stand upon this morality fix themselves upon an impregnable rock.

They cannot be defeated.

Even as they walk in God’s perfection, which is simply right-standing with Him, they understand that in this world, they will have tribulation (John 16:33).

They are not impervious to this fact. They don’t sit on a high horse, believing their good deeds keep them from any attacks.

They are well aware that their firm foundation makes them a target for people who love the darkness more than the light.

And they are fully cognizant that while persecution comes their way, it will only be used to place them in the position God had originally designed for them.

Perfection does not keep you from being “crucified,” Beloved.

Righteousness marks you.

And any time you make yourself available to be used as a vessel that brings empowerment to others, especially in the political space, you will be a target.

How will you handle that degree of persecution?

How will you handle a scandal?

But Coach, I’ve never done anything in my life that would be so controversial, you may be thinking.

And?

Since when does the devil play fair?

Imagine thinking the father of lies would exempt you from his onslaught simply because you’ve done good things all your life.

If you intend to step on the battlefield and to bring life to those who are suffering in darkness, you will get hit.

Hard.

Jesus said it best: “For who is powerful enough to enter the house of a strong man and plunder his goods? Only someone even stronger—someone who could tie him up and then plunder his house” (Matthew 12:29).

You cannot bring the Good News to any sphere — whether in the social, political, or economic sphere — and not expect any lies, slander, smears, and more.

Your story can be flawless; and if people cannot find dirt on you, they will concoct stories just to taint your reputation.

You are not exempt from these troubles, Beloved.

Therefore, it behooves you to learn how best to handle these situations.

You must learn how to set your face like a flint so you are not fractured during the intense moments.

You must learn to fortify your mind and to keep your soul rooted in the invincible principles that guarantee your success.

And if the stories found in the Scriptures do not ignite your resolve, let my story do it for you.

I am no superwoman.

I am not invincible.

The principles I preach and the ones I apply to my life guard me.

Morality is invincible. Kingdom laws and spiritual principles are invincible.

Not humanity.

And when you make yourself one with God’s laws, you become a force in the Earth that no man can destroy.

I want to encourage you today, Beloved, with this teaching.

We are living in a world filled with hate.

We are seeing our communities being destroyed by leaders whose ambitions align not with the perfect will of God.

We are witnessing our nation’s slow demise because people have made government their god, the same government that has historically been used to oppress people groups based on skin color.

We are a sick nation in need of spiritual healing.

But we will not witness this great power unless leaders like you step out in faith and do the work.

People will not receive the empowering message unless a messenger is sent.

And you are that messenger.

You are the voice who must present solutions that empower and protect the people.

You are the voice who must push back against the asinine messaging that vilifies fellow Americans who have done no harm to others.

You are the voice who must give insight, wisdom, and understanding to the next generation.

If you do not complete the assignment God gave you, then He will hold you responsible for what happens to the people because they weren’t given options.

Yes, it is that serious.

And today, God has given you a Coach to help you manifest your calling in a spirit of excellence.

I will teach you how to navigate this social, political, and economic world while winning the battles based on morality, Kingdom laws, and spiritual principles.

Today, I invite you to join our growing rank of leaders who are learning to do things God's way so we get His results in the social, political, and economic spheres.

The Felecia Killings Foundation is a Conscious Conservative think tank and leadership organization. Through our research, publications, and outreach, we teach rising leaders how to activate their thought leadership in the social, political, and economic spheres.

The Conscious Conservative Movement is a branch of our organization, which helps bridge the gap between conservative politics and Black voters. Through our national work, we teach Black Americans how to access the Republican apparatus while also selling principled-based Conservative candidates who will serve on their behalf at the local, state, and federal level.

Donations to The Felecia Killings Foundation and The Conscious Conservative Movement help sponsor our research, publications, and online community workshops.

Each year, our research team engages in evangelistic efforts to develop qualitative articles based on the needs of diverse Black voters. Our research focuses on school choice, homeschooling, marriage, family, entrepreneurship, faith, and effective communication strategies for conservative evangelism.

We compile our findings in annual publications (The Conscious Conservative Collection) that help inform Conservative Leaders on how best to make political inroads with Black voters.

Our publications then serve as marketing tools that help our CCM Leaders deliver FREE online community workshops that teach Black voters how to access conservative politics that protect what they build.

The Felecia Killings Foundation, in compliance with regulations, functions as a for-profit organization that allows us the freedom to fulfill our God-given vision and mission. A significant portion of all profits covers salaries, research, publication fees, travel, online and offline outreach, and more. As a token of our appreciation for your financial support, you will receive new rewards as a Beloved Giver.
