How to Sell Conservative Politics to Your Moderate/Independent Family Members and Friends

This week, our focus remains on effective outreach. And while I spend considerable time talking about making inroads with Black voters, I want to expand upon those teachings by showing you how to reach your family and friends.

In Twitter Class, I often teach the importance of political education, especially through storytelling. In addition, in lockstep with Sonnie Johnson's message, I urge Beloveds to practice fellowship with diverse Americans.

Fellowship breaks down racial barriers, barriers Progressive government loves to uphold.

But political fellowship can also be had among family members and friends when the messaging is presented in an empowering manner.

I recall the months when I lived with my Auntie right after leaving my tumultuous marriage. One of our main conversations focused on politics, and I suppose it's because I enjoy these discussions.

My Aunt, like most Black Americans, is a Democrat. But she also knows I'm a Black Conservative/Republican, and her insight regarding politics most intrigued me.

During our discussions, I learned how much she values principled Black Republicans. For example, at times we would watch Shermichael Singleton when he made guest appearances. I told her I was acquainted with Singleton and other principled Black Republicans, who had no problem holding our Party publicly accountable.

Although my Aunt and I had vastly different political takes, we both understood one common notion: we loved each other and we would always want the best for our Black communities.

During these same months, my Aunt was the first person to ask me about AB5, a Progressive law that attacked freelancers in California between 2019-2020. She worried that law would hurt my work, and she was right. In fact, because of that law, I had to move me and my daughter to Georgia, where I could work freely. Those few months with my Aunt taught me just how important it was for Conservatives to engage in healthy political conversations with family and friends. You see, had I known back then what I know today, I would have told my Aunt how much Progressivism is a threat to Black mothers like me.

You see, when certain policies directly affect our livelihood, it makes it easier to sell conservative politics.

At no time do I ever use Right-wing, Republican talking points to address family and friends, especially when I'm talking to Black voters.

I use evidence and first-hand experiences to prove my assertions correct.

More importantly, I take time to listen when others are talking. Most often, in the middle of their conversation, they will agree with me that conservative politics is the BEST option for them.

It's a conclusion I let them come to on their own as we have these wholesome, educational discussions.

When thinking about your family members and friends, consider the following strategies for spreading the empowering conservative message:

1. What issues are most pressing to them today, and how can you best explain a conservative solution?
2. Do they fully understand how this republic works, and how can you help them fill in the gaps?
3. Are they mindful of certain Progressive practices, like ESG, which is responsible for higher gas prices? If not, how can you best explain current events?

Winning on the battlefield of ideas does not include "owning the Libs" or "drinking Liberal tears." (That latter part is the most disgusting analogy I've ever heard, but I digress.)

Winning involves persuasive techniques, chief among them being storytelling and education.

A lot of times, people vote out of ignorance or based on the prevailing message they received. Add to it, if there is no competing message, as is typical in predominantly Black communities, voters will select the ideology and platform that is most present.

As such, it's your responsibility to provide the better option. But remember to package it in an empowering manner.

Don't look to embarrass your family members or friends.

Instead, listen and then fill in the void with accurate knowledge and understanding.

From there, you will open more eyes.

And that's when conservatism will spread like wild fire.
