About the Book, Dipsuchos
Nova, the daughter of a US congressman, is pretty, privileged, and persuasive. Embarrassed by her father’s political abuse of power and her mother’s onset submissiveness, she finds solace in her secret job as a ghostwriter for one of the nation’s top media outlets, working to unveil the injustices in America’s urban communities.
Her recent article, entitled “The American Nightmare,” catches the eye of Damon Garrett, a community activist and seemingly the voice of Detroit’s underserved. Unbeknownst to many, he personifies racism, danger, and hypocrisy cloaked in rhetoric. Nova’s way with the people is what Damon needs to push his dark agenda forward, and he’ll do anything to get her on his side.
Jamal is a former drug dealer who works undercover for the FBI to bring down Detroit’s undesirables. He’s ready to quit the undercover life, but one strong-willed agent threatens his freedom if he does. The deal was to work for the government that destroyed his cartel or serve a hard sentence upstate.
As both Nova and Jamal find themselves in a fight to get out of the clutches that restrain them, they realize they are in too deep and that the only way out is in. Their journey brings them closer to a higher power that they once questioned.

"Fiction is nothing more than a reflection of our daily lives. If we take the time to analyze these stories, we discover our own truths embedded in the characters. This is one element I love about Christian fiction." - Felecia Killings
It's not often I am asked to complete book reviews for Christian fiction authors. Most of my clients and partners have books focused on self-help, inspiration, or Christian non-fiction. It's always exciting when I am approached with the opportunity to review the works from Christian fiction authors. And The Foundation is pleased to bring Shani Mixon's book, Dipsuchos, to our platform.
Upon reading the book's title, I was immediately captivated. "Dipsuchos," which means "double-minded," instantly introduced me to the type of characters presented in the story. As you've read from the book's summary, the protagonist must battle between her own convictions and what she observes from her parents' behavior. Her challenges are juxtaposed by another character who must deal with internal and external conflicts that affect his "freedom."
Like all of us today, we struggle to find ourselves and our truth. We observe injustices in our homes, our communities, and our nation; and we wonder how we can be active in shifting the culture. I am no stranger to this conflict.
But until we discover our true selves -- an identity that can only be found in YahWeh -- we take on a double-mind. And as James so eloquently put it, "A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways" (James 1:8).
Beloved, if you're looking for a book that will give you suspense, thrills, excitement, and a strong moral message, connect with Shani Mixon today! She has a library of other books that will empower you. And I am so honored that she is now a partner with The Foundation. I look forward to bringing more of her works to the forefront.
