When it comes to success, what image pops in your mind? If you are like most new leaders, it’s hard to tell what will and will not work. We are all looking for that perfect formula or that secret weapon that will catapult us into our next level. But the truth is, there is only one path that leads to success, and it’s a journey any person can take as long as he or she is willing to make the strides. Success is not relegated to one person’s interpretation, but rather a set of God-given laws that guarantee triumph. And that’s what I want to address in this next lesson. I want to discuss 13 specific factors that lead to your success in your online business, virtual ministry, or political platform. Want to Thrive in Your Venture? Then Think and Grow RichIn 2016, I read Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill for the first time. I stumbled across this text after asking the Holy Spirit for more discernment regarding wealth accumulation. For years after leaving the public school system, I suffered financially. I could never seem to land the right job, and this affected my ability to adequately provide for me and Aaliyah. That’s when I did like most of us do: I started complaining to the Lord for my lot in life. I had the nerve to accuse Him of not holding up to His end of the bargain, which was to provide more than enough to me, especially because I was a tither for so many years. The nerve! I know. While His Word is true, and I could “test Him” on it, my approach was foul and needed adjusting. During my complaints, I finally came to my senses. Instead of throwing my fist in God’s face (metaphorically, of course), I asked the Holy Spirit how other people acquired wealth. I asked Him to teach me those same laws and principles so I could generate greater results and do what He called me to do. And that’s when things changed for me. In searching for great books that discussed wealth, I came across Think and Grow Rich. What I learned is there are God-created laws that help us acquire the success we desire, but we must be willing to do our part so we experience what we hope for. The only way we thrive in our ventures is when we apply these laws of God. And in this lesson, you will see how to get started. Principle #1: Have a God-Given IdeaEvery great product or service began in someone’s mind. It starts with an idea. Napoleon Hill made this remark: “Truly, ‘thoughts are things,’ and powerful things at that, when they are mixed with definiteness of purpose, persistence, and a burning desire for their translation into riches, or other material objects…When you begin to think and grow rich, you will observe that riches begin with a state of mind.” (Think and Grow Rich) What you think in your heart, you become (Proverbs 23:7). Thoughts are just that powerful. As a rising leader, your idea about your venture must remain fixed in your mind. Creating a vision board, recording your core principles, and rehearsing your success mentally will pave the way for physical results. Principle #2: Burn with Passion As ideas stir in our hearts and minds, they begin to translate into a burning passion. The more your mind replays the vision you have for your online venture, the more you ignite a desire that cannot be quenched. It can easily transform into an obsession, one that won’t let you stop believing. Principle #3: Have Faith God responds to faith. Faith is so fundamental to our growth as leaders, because without it, we will not see our ventures flourish. Faith is more than wishful thinking. It is a state of mind that possesses a resolute spirit. Faith is that image you see, which cannot be altered. And faith opens the door for you to receive the plans needed to manifest your vision. If you feel you lack faith, you need only ask the Holy Spirit, and He will give you the faith you need to believe Him for the impossible. But you must be willing to hold onto that faith, for any traces of doubt concerning your venture will lead to its demise. Principle #4: Affirm What You See Daily As you believe for what you envision, you must create a statement of faith or affirmation. There is a reason why we are taught to write our visions (Habakkuk 2:2). Those who do generally reach their goals more than those who do not. Don’t simply dream about your vision. Create a mantra, and rehearse it daily so you eventually receive plans for manifesting your desires. For example, your affirmation could be, “This year, I purpose to finish my book because I have a message that will empower my community.” Affirmations can also focus on your spiritual or mental well-being: “Today, I rise into a new me, one that reflects the nature of God.” Napoleon Hill summarized this understanding by giving us a glimpse at how rehearsing affirmations affects the subconscious. Each time the statement is read—and eventually memorized—the subconscious mind prepares itself to receive the next steps towards fulfilling that affirmation. In essence, our words are creating the worlds we desire. Principle #5: Acquire Specialized Knowledge No one has ever achieved success on one’s own. It is through the learned experiences of those before us that help us master the skills we need for success. The same is for you, Beloved. If you intend to have a thriving venture, you must acquire the right knowledge for your particular field. And you must be willing to pay the price—in time and money—to acquire this knowledge. Principle #6: Embrace Your Imagination Organized knowledge is powerful, because it has the potential to ignite your imagination. As you learn more about the online business, virtual ministry, and political platform industries, you will find your imagination taking you places. You will see yourself speaking to large crowds. You will think about hosting your own conferences and events. You will think about all types of wonderful endeavors that you can create, because the knowledge you received is inspiring a world of possibilities for you. Principle #7: Prepare Your Plans As your imagination takes off, you must effectively plan your next steps. The challenge with using our imagination is that it can run wild. You may discover 100 different ideas, but you simply don’t have the time needed to make each one a success. Therefore, you must choose the ideas you will enjoy, and put together action plans that will help you become successful. Principle #8: Be Resolute in Your Decisions People who lag in making decisions never accomplish anything. Therefore, you must be a sharp decision maker, especially because you are the CEO of your venture. If you know you have the resources to acquire the training that will impact your work, then decide today to purchase them. If you know you need to create online videos for your audience, then decide to do them. Whatever must be done, do it. On the other side of your decision are the next steps towards progress. Principle #9: Be Persistent Life gets tough. And building an online platform does not make it easier. It will take time and patience, and you must be willing to develop persistence if you hope to achieve your dreams. Too often, people quit their visions because they do not see immediate results. They doubt their ideas instead of re-evaluating whether the plans to acquire them were correct. And because of minor setbacks, they give up. But successful leaders understand persistence is key. If you can overcome the feelings of frustrations and temporary defeats, you are sure to reach your goals. Principle #10: Build a Mastermind Group As you cultivate ideas and build plans for seeing them manifest, it becomes necessary to collaborate with like-minded individuals. Developing a group of master minds can dramatically increase your ability to prosper. A master mind group allows you to solicit advice or counsel from others who can help take your ideas to another level. Principle #11: Keep a Positive Mindset The more you learn about your mind and its capabilities, the more you will understand how magnificent it is. What a wonderful thing God gave to man. As a leader, you must understand your mind helps you pull the invisible into the visible world. What you feed your mind, it will produce. If you’re constantly thinking negatively and doubtfully, then you will only experience what your thoughts produce. But if you consistently pour into your mind that which is good, wholesome, holy, and right, your world has no choice but to comply with your thoughts. Principle #12: Keep Your Eyes on Heaven’s Agenda Napoleon Hill describes this next law as the “sixth sense.” As he explained, when we don’t know what to do, and we have exhausted all else, there is a sixth sense that kicks in to give us the push we need to move forward. But I like to call this “sixth sense” divine or heavenly revelation. My women’s ministry, my political movement, my networks, my coaching program, and my national platform are direct results of my time with the Holy Spirit. The vision and dreams I receive as well as the plans for putting things together came from Him. And when people ask me how I was able to produce so much in what seems like a short time, I tell them it was the Lord who caused me to prosper. There will be times when you find yourself stuck and lost in this journey. And it will seem like there is no answer for you. But all you need to do is ask the Lord. Read the various biblical stories that show you how God visited men and women in dreams. He provided them supernatural, “sixth sense” information that helped them prosper. The Lord’s ways have not changed, and He will do the same for you and your venture. Principle #13: Record Your Success and Your Journey Finally, when all is said and done, you must create a road map to your success. There may be others who want to follow in your footsteps of becoming a successful Thought Leader. As you work on building your platform, record the steps you took so you can invest in others. And then use this road map to help you make future plans for more success. Summary: Success is not relegated to one person’s interpretation, but rather a set of God-given laws that guarantee triumph.
