Why Black Youth Literacy Remains a Fundamental Staple within the Conscious Conservative Movement

​As an educator and homeschool mother, these numbers depress me, but they do not shock me.

When I worked with scholars in the public-education system, it was clear to see why these numbers reflected a growing trend of illiteracy among Black youth.

It has nothing to do with a lack of desire for learning.

It has nothing to do with incompetence.

It has everything to do with environment, and I am not just talking about a student's home life.

In the public-education system, the atmosphere of complacency is prominent. In my newest memoir, To My Beloveds, I share some of the struggles I (and other teachers) encountered when dealing with school district officials and administrators who do NOT support or protect teachers.

In hostile work environments such as these, it is impossible to deliver quality education to students who need it the most.

And at the end of the day, Black youth are most affected by these negative environments.

The Stats are Alarming, But They Do Not Constitute the End

Within the general conservative space, "Colorblind" Black Republican leaders love to quote stats that paint a negative image of Black men, women, and children.

They pull these stereotypes from Progressive data to further reinforce their ideas about Black inferiority rather than using the numbers to inform best practices for changing the game.

For example, Black candidates running for office on the conservative platform will often discuss the low literacy and math rates among Black youth.

Then they will instantly blame Black Culture for these failures without actually targeting the real enemy: Progressivism.

Anytime a government-sanctioned institution is tasked with "uplifting" Black people, you can expect more death, poverty, and destruction.

Why?

Because that is the nature and mission of Progressivism.

I provided more evidence of its destruction within Black communities in my newest release, Progressivism is NOT Charity.

It isn't until Black people fully embrace Conscious Conservatism, even in the areas of education, then we will begin to see a dramatic shift.

In a recent podcast interview, I chatted with Principal Amen Rahh to discuss how he activated in California to address this specific need among Black and Brown youth in Compton.

He recently opened a new school that focuses on paying students to learn via cryptocurrency. And his efforts have inspired youth, not only to master reading and math, but to excel in college or to start their own entrepreneurial endeavors.

According to our interview, his school has a 100% graduation rate!

Can we legitimately tout those praises for our over-crowded Progressive schools?

Principal Rahh is just one of many Black men doing good work in the educational field.

But as you will notice, especially as he shared more of his story during my interview, he told the leaders involved with his organization, "I have to be able to do things my way."

Beloved, that is conservatism in action.

That is a "republic" answer or response to a local problem without the need of Big Daddy Government to solve the issue.

When it comes to Black youth, principled leaders are needed to guide them on the right path. 

Inspiring youth to do better is not difficult.

They just need to SEE evidence that what we preach actually works.

Within the Conscious Conservative Movement, we aim to make that inspiration palatable for Black communities in Georgia. 

In partnership with independent authors across the country, we raise funds to purchase their empowering books. Then we distribute these books FREELY to local residents in predominantly Black communities. We couple these efforts with our evangelism so Black folks in Georgia learn more about our philosophy and movement.

Since launching My Beloved Books in March 2022, we have seen an openness among Black voters to entertain conversations related to Republicanism and Conservatism.

We want folks to understand the power of the written and spoken word. We want literacy to remain a staple within our Movement because it has the power to remove the barriers that block our communities from experiencing wealth, health, and prosperity.

No government institution will do the work.

No amount of money will ever solve the "functioning illiteracy" among Black youth.

We must do it!

Funding must pivot in the right direction towards the right people doing the right work.

Beloved, when you see folks on the ground, doing the work, contribute directly to them. God has graced each of us with a special task. And when each one functions in his or her respective calling, we will witness the greatest revival and reformation our nation has ever seen.
